Calculate the amount (grams) stock tris base powder (MW = 121.4 g/mol) required to make 500 mL of 265 mM solution

Solutions

Expert Solution

Given, MW = 121.4 g/mol

volume of solution to be prepared = 500 mL = 0.5 L

concentration of solution to be prepared = 265 mM = 0.265 M (0.265 mol/L)

Number of moles of tris base = molarity * volume

                                                = 0.265 mol/L * 0.5 L

                                                = 0.1325 moles

Number of moles = mass / molar mass

mass = number of moles * molar mass

          = 0.1325 moles * 121.4 g/mol

mass = 16.1 gm
