1. Discuss, Compare and contrast Trophic levels, Food chains, and Food webs. How are these concepts related, and how do they differ?

2a. Explain primary succession?
2b. How does it differ from secondary succession?
2c. Give an example of each?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The organisms sharing the same function in food chain and same nutritional relationship with primary sources of energy belong to same trophic level in a food chain. It is the position, organism occupy in its food chain. Food chain usually starts at trophic level 1 and finishes around trophic level 4 or 5.

Food chain is a network of links starting from producers present at trophic level 1 and ending at apex predator species at trophic level 4 or 5.

when these food chains interconnect each other, a complex network is formed known as food web.
