A nurse researcher used a QUAL + QUAN design to explore anxiety and depression among adults whose older parents were in hospice care in a distant location. Using the Cresswell and Plano Clark design terminology, what is the name of the design the researcher used?

A.

Convergent design

B.

Embedded design

C.

Exploratory design

D.

Explanatory design

Solutions

Expert Solution

The Researcher used the Convergent Design.

A. The convergent design is appropriate where the QUAL +QUAN used simultaneously. It is the most approach mixing method of Cresswell, Plano, Clark. This helps to obtain different data (anxiety, depression) on the same topic. The interpretation is based on the merging of two data results of both QUAL + QUAN. This method uses same time frame with equal weight(qualitative and quantitative are equal).

B. Embedded Design is not appropriate. In this, each type of question requires the different type of data which is qualitative or quantitative. The researcher used qualitative data with the quantitative methodology or the quantitative data with qualitative methodology. The qualitative and quantitative is unequal.

C. The exploratory design is not appropriate. This two-phase method. the first one is the qualitative phase and the second phase is the quantitative phase. Usually, The variables are unknown and the instruments are not available. It is usually qualitative.

D. Explanatory Design is not appropriate. In this design, the qualitative data builds based on quantitative results. It consists of the two-phase mixed method. First, the collection of qualitative data and second phase connects with the quantitative phase. It is usually quantitative.

Design a Study to Test one of the following: Scenario 3: Anxiety and depression play a role in the speed and quality of recovery from illness. Past research indicates that owning and caring for a pet may counter symptoms of anxiety and depression. There are numerous types of therapy available to ill patients but is owning a pet also a viable treatment for relieving anxious and depressive symptoms? Clearly identify the scenario you chose. In your response, clearly identify your...

A researcher suspects that the actual prevalence of generalized anxiety among children and adolescents is higher than the previously reported prevalence of generalized anxiety disorder among children and adolescents. The previously reported prevalence of generalized anxiety disorder among children and adolescents is 3.9%, and the researcher conducts a study to test the accuracy of the previously reported prevalence of generalized anxiety disorder by recruiting 98 children and adolescents from various pediatricians' offices and tests them for generalized anxiety disorder using...

A researcher would like to determine if meditation training will affect anxiety-related distress among a group of participants. For a week prior to training, each participant records the number of times they feel anxious. Participants then receive meditation training and for the week following training the number of times they feel anxious is again measured. A researcher has used a complex design to study the effects of caffeine (caffeinated and decaffeinated) and problem difficulty (easy and hard) on subjects’ memories. The researcher tested a total of eighty subjects, with twenty subjects randomly assigned to each of the four groups resulting from the factorial combination of the two independent variables. The data presented in the table represent the percentage words that subjects recalled correctly in each of the four conditions. Caffeine Problem difficulty Caffeinated Decaffeinated Easy...
