Below is the reasons behind the passage of EEO (equal employment
opportunity) legislation in the United states.
- The main reasons for passing the equal employment opportunity
is to avoid the discrimination at the work place. This includes
discrimination of candidate or employee based on the sex, religion,
age nationality, race , colour, caste etc. Hence in order to avoid
the discrimination at work place, equal employment opportunity
commission was established by Title VII of Civil right act of
1964.
- The EEO with the help of Title VII of civil right act of 1964
effectively controlling the discrimination at work places.
- Many labours or employee before the formation of equal
employment legislation were facing the discrimination issue in the
US companies workplace. In order to overcome this equal employment
opportunity legislation have been passed to give justice to US
employees.
- This Equal employment opportunity is applicable for the
situations such as hiring, firing, promotion, award/reward ,
transfer etc. It is also illegal to discriminate the employee
during advertising, referral of candidates etc during a hiring
process.
- This equal employment opportunity legislation helps to the
employee to overcome from discrimination for the companies which
have employees more than 15.
- When an employee feels he/she is discriminated by any of the
organization based on the sex, age, colour, religion, nationality
etc. He//she have right to put a law suit against that
company.
