Describe quantitative and qualitative research. Which is most useful to an educational leader?
Quantitative Research: A research methodology that is used to find a solution for a large population. To collect data, a huge survey population is covered and the results do not analyse the problem deeply. The results generalize to an entire population of interest. Methods used to collect data in this research type are highly structured, statistical and with limited responses to the question asked. Outcomes are mostly exploratory in nature. It is statistical in nature.
Qualitative Research: A type of research that is concerned about in-depth analysis of a problem and generalise the outcome. Unstructured or semi-structured data collection is used in this research methodology. It provides deep understanding of the context. It has no statistical use.
Qualitative research is most useful for an educational leader as it provides in-depth understanding of a problem instead of superficial one. Without proper understanding of the context, a proper solution can not be formed, and decision making will be impacted.
