Assembly Line Assignment:
This week you are going to design and balance an assembly line. We are going to take the simple task of making cupcakes, break the work up into stations, calculate cycle times for each station, balance the work load between stations, and calculate the efficiency of the operation. The steps for the assignment are below.
1)Design an assembly line to manufacture cupcakes from scratch.
2)Balance the assembly line.
3)Measure the efficiency.
Assignment Format: The best way to do this is Excel. You can use cell borders and insert shapes to build the assembly line. Use the math functions in Excel to balance your line and calculate efficiencies. The final report should be in Word in APA format. Use the following sections.
1)Introduction-how you set up the line, what is done at each station and cycle time. You can cut and paste in your diagram from Excel.
2)Line Balance-what you did to balance the line, you can copy in your Excel work if needed.
3)Efficiency-provide and analyze the operational efficiency.
Cup Cake Manufacturing
Set up of cupcake manufacturing line first under stand the manufacturing process, break into the station / operation, take the cycle time of the process, identify the bottleneck, provide the proper set up for bottleneck and set the line for manufacturing.
Manufacturing process of cake-
Step 1- Make the Kanban for the ingredient of the cup cake.
Step 2- Mix the Beat butter for 2 min, mix the sugar and butter properly for 2 min.
Step 3- Mix the egg into the solution.1 min till it looks like the thick butter cream.
Step 4- Add backing powder and other ingredient mix for 30 sec.
Step 5 – Add the butter milk and the vanilla mix properly for 1 min.
Step 6 – Put the solution into the cups and put into the oven for 20 mins.( 10 min heating time + 10 min processing time)
Step 7 – Frozen into air for 10 mins.

Start the oven in start ( preheating ) time save.add few operations with one operator to save the operation cost as the bottleneck time is high.
After line balancing
Conclusion- By doing the Line balancing the line capacity improve from210 to 420 number in a shift also the manpower reduce to 3.
Line balancing is a good tool to improve the line efficiency.
