Natural sources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, plants, heat give rise to green energy. These green energy are renewable that is they can be used again and again and it doesn't get exhausted.
Examples of green energy in India are:
Solar Power: photovoltaic cells are used to produce solar power. This photovoltaic cells captures sunlight and it converts sunlight into electricity. This electricity can then be used for variety of purposes such as to provide natural lighting, to make the water hot for domestic, commercial or industrial use, for cooking, etc. It is less expensive and one the cleanest and most reliable form of renewable energy.
Wind Power: Wind power or wind energy is an imperishable and renewable form of energy. It uses wind to make the wind turbines rotate and in turn produce kinetic energy and this kinetic energy gets converted into electric energy.Wind power is cost effective and clean source of fuel because it doesn't cause any pollution like fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas.
Hydroelectric Power:it is also called as hydro power. It basically converts energy from water that is flowing into electricity. Here the water is constantly renewed by the sun hence it is a renewable energy. In olden days this hydroelectric power or energy was used for mechanical milling such as grinding grains. Nowadays electricity is produced by using turbines and generators. Flowing water creates mechanical energy and this spins rotors on a turbine. Electromagnetic generator is connected to this turbine and when the turbine spins electricity is produced.
Geothermal Energy: Geothermal energy is environmental friendly, renewable and sustainable form of energy. Here the energy is produced by using the internal heat from the Earth's crust. Geothermal wells are drilled into the earth's crust having a depth of 3 to 10 km. The internal heat is extracted by variety of methods but mostly it is heat is extracted from the earth by using water and steam. The hot water that is then produced can be directly extracted to heat homes and buildings. It can also be used to produce electricity in a geothermal power plant.
Biomass energy:It is a cleaner source of energy. It is also environment friendly and renewable energy. Here, cow-dung and farm waste is converted into biogas by setting up a biogas plant. The slurry which is left behind is used as a manure and this manure is rich in nitrogen and phosphorous. This gas reduces green house emissions that is, it reduces greenhouse effect and doesn't cause any pollution. This biogas is produced from waste such as agricultural waste, manure, sewage, food waste etc and this helps to reduce global warming.
