Discuss the pros and cons of a railroad lobbying for the building of roads that allows freight to move by motor carriage rather than rail in the United States. (Note: this prevents railroads from increasing revenues but also reduces their infrastructure costs.) Why promote the roads and not the railroads?
Roads and railroads have always been a blessing of the people in the US. Replacing the railroads with the road for the freight dispatch does have advantages. As a coin has two sides, roads and railroads have advantages over each other.
Advantages of RAILROADS over Road.
(a) It is Cheap and affordable
(b) Train takes less fuel
(c) It can hold large loads
(d) These are reliable
(e) Have a large capacity
Advantages of ROAD over Railroads.
(a) The cost of construction is low comparatively.
(b) Roads can be constructed even though it is a hilly region or undulating topography.
(c) It is profitable even if the passengers are in a small number.
(d) It is best for short-distance trips and is economical for the transporter.
(e) They can reach the end-user/destination, like door-to-door service.
(f) Via road, one can go any area taking bypass routes.
(g) Flexible in cancelling a route or postponing them by the traveller.
(h) Easy in maintenance.
These are the reasons why the road is always preferable in transportation. In terms of the sender to the receiver in the case of freight delivery, always road is preferrable.
