1. In clinical and developmental terms, adolescents are super-learners. They seek thrilling experiences at the edge of existing knowledge. When adults create new opportunities while setting clear boundaries, adolescents are more likely to stay within safe limits. This is the truth, and it must replace the myth that adolescents are wired for risk. Question? Based on your understanding of development, why should nurses explain to parents the difference between myth and reality regarding adolescent behavior(s)? Explain.

2. We know that teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and the emotional trauma of sexual abuse are serious concerns. So, how can we as parents help maturing young girls cope with their confusing sexual feelings as well as the impact that their appearance has on boys and men? Explain?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1. Adolescence is an age of great learning and opportunity. But parents shouldn't forget that children of this age still need help. Teenagers learn the most when parents and family members are supportive, loving and caring. And these myths about adolescents can hamper the relationship between parents and children. I will advise them to not get discouraged from shaping their child's life. Restricting their child is simply not the way to help their child. Thus, controlling them because of the myth can never be an option to protect them.

2. Parents can play a huge role in maturing young girls cope with their confusing sexual feelings. They should make their girls understand and accept their changing sexuality. Suppose a girl might feel ashamed of her growing size of the breast. She might feel complexed and lose confidence. In such cases, it is the responsibility of the parents to help her get away from this complexity and explain that it is completely normal. Parents should make them understand the results of sexual expression and realize the nuances of healthy and unhealthy relationships. Also, it is extremely important for people to have a clear knowledge of unexpected pregnancy, HIV, and other sexually transmitted infections.
