(Answer) The concept of “culture industry” is something that works like a “give and take” relationship or a “quid pro quo.” This means that while advertisements and the media help influence pop culture, popular culture also in turn helps drive what is popular in the media.
For instance, memes were made popular by social media platforms like Facebook. On the other hand, memes were also used by the audience to popularise topical references. In other words, if “ripped jeans” are sold by clothing companies, it is because the young generation has made it popular.
Both, the audience and the platform work complementary to each other in order to increase and maintain a momentary popularity of trends and topics. Therefore, the culture industry might influence buying behaviour and buying behaviour is also picked up and showcased via advertisements.
