The motto of each and every medical coder is to "simplify healthcare". As like other profession medical coding also has both pros and cons.Medical Coding is a growing industry that offers a lot of potential for employers and job seekers alike.
In my opinion CPC will be one
acceptable certification for all for well future. The CPC credential
is the most recognized medical coding certification in the
healthcare industry. Achieving CPC certification establishes the
coder as a healthcare professional and increases the chances of
being hired in a growing, competitive job market. CPC certification
can achieve in specific field. For being a cpc certified coder one
should have a proficiency across a range of services (including
evaluation and management, anesthesia, surgery, radiology,
pathology, and medicine).
A sound knowledge of medical coding guidelines and
regulations.Mastery of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
necessary to code correctly diagnosis and services and
an understanding of how to integrate medical coding and payment
policy changes into reimbursement processes. The certification costs
$425 ($325 for AAPC student members) and allowed one
free re-take, and may take the "test" as many times as necessary to
pass. Once one pass, they do not have to retake the "exam" itself
again as long as you submit 36 CEUs to AAPC every 2 years. In order
to maintain CPC certification, the AAPC requires their credentialed
members to acquire Continuing Education Units (CEU).
