Describe in your own words how the theory of black-body
radiation was formulated by Rayleigh and Jeans. Be sure to include
how the density of the modes of radiation and the Boltzmann
distribution were incorporated into their description. Discuss the
shortcomings of the Rayleigh-Jean theory. Describe how Planck
modified the theory to make it successful. Your answer should not
exceed 2 handwritten pages. Your answer should be mostly
descriptive, rather than a detailed mathematical derivation. You
may find that including...
Derive Laws of Black Body Radiation from Wien’s Law:

Why is it that thermal radiation of a black body usually
described by a spectral distribution function rather than an
intensity vs frequency curve?
I have a vague explanation for this: Any measured intensity of
radiation will contain a spectrum of frequencies which are
impossible to separate (even with a very good spectrometer, one can
only measure the intensity of an interval). So it is practically
impossible to assign a particular intensity to a particular
frequency.
Is my reasoning correct?
a. Briefly describe (with the use of diagrams) the
Brayton’s cycle and derive the formula for
the coefficient of performance for the Brayton’s cycle
b. A Bell-Coleman refrigerator operates between pressure limits of
2 bar and 14 bar. Air is drawn from the cold chamber at 100C,
compressed and then it is cooled to 32OC before entering the
expansion cylinder. Expansion and compression follow the law pv1.35
