Chronic,inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation in the digestive tract.Ulcerative colitis is usually only in the inner most lining of the large intestine and rectum .Ulcerative colitis put's patient at increase risk of developing colon cancer.

Treatment for ulcerative colitis are Aminosalicylates that team inflammation in the gut.That include Balsalazide,Mesalamine,,Olsalazine,and Sulfasalazine.

Balsalazide is an oral antiinflammatory drug that is used for treatment of ulcerative colitis. It is delivered by intact to the Colon where it is cleaved by bacterial azoreduction to release equimolar quantities of mesalamine,which is therapeutically active portion of the molecules and the 4 aminobezoyl s alanine Carrier moiety.
