What is the difference between the color-blind perspective on race and blatant bigotry? How does the color-blind ideology lead to racism evasiveness? Why is it often so difficult to recognize and address racial discrimination in the United States today? v
One the most important factors about the United States is that it’s a multiracial and multicultural country that comprises of settlers from all around the world. This would mean that racism has become an unavoidable element in the American history due to the white supremacy thoughts and the majority white population. Thus, what started as a historical backlash still continues to torment people of color in various areas such as, education, employment, housing, healthcare, political participation etc. Institutional racism which is an invisible tool that is used by those in power is used against the racial minorities to discriminate them and dominate them. Color blindness was introduced in the society in order to treat people equally without discriminating them based on race. However, unless people overcome the concept of race and color in their minds, it would become difficult to bring equality. This is because of the fact that although law insists equality, people in the society especially the bigots and other clan members would reintroduce the concept of white supremacy. When people gain enough experience and exposure, they would gain first hand experience about people of color which may take some more time at this pace.
