Is the federal government effective if separate parties control the Executive and Legislative branches? Why or why not?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer.

the US Constitution limits the powers of the federal government through a system of ‘checks and balances’ such that the three branches of the federal government are divided by exercising different functions, and the executive and legislative powers are separated by separate elections and the judiciary is kept independent of the other two branches.

Another crucial means of controlling concentration of power in the hands of a few is by supporting a strong unified opposition party which can provide a constructive critique of the decisions and actions of the government.

The Members of government are, as a rule, members of those parties which have a majority in Parliament.A confrontation of the governing majority is made possible by the presence of the opposition in the Legislature. what this indicates is that rights of mutual control and influence which make sure that the Legislature and the Executiveinteract in an equitable and balanced way and it ensures that certain functions must not be exercised by one and the same person and party.
