RFID is Radio Frequency Identification is the technology that uses
the electromagnetic fields for automatically identifying and also
tracking the tags which are used by being attached to the objects
and are used for storing information.
RFID can be attached to any object in the physical form and thus
can be used in the tracking and managing of the inventory, assets
and also people. It can be used with books, cars, electronic
equipment, and others. RFID can be used in tracking people or
animals, toll collection, managing access, tracking and billing
uses and others.
There are 2 types of RFID which are:
Active RFID has a local power source such as having a battery
connected and thus can operate from a distance.
Passive RFID which is the most used collects the energy from the
RFID reader and then processes the output.
The main issue associated with RFID tags are:
Security as the tags are prone tot he virtual and physical hacks
and attacks on the system.
Privacy may also be hampered as the data collected can be used for
privacy breaches.
