Discuss mediocrity in education, grade inflation, social promotion and raising standards.
Problem of mediocrity. The achievement of students of a specific grade has gone low . Students of secondary could not perform task corresponding to even grade VIII . MOREOVER mediocrity is reflected in low SAT scores on average.
Grade inflation . State education department has adopted an inflated grading system by which students grade goes up without any corresponding increase in learning.
Social Promotion - Promoting student from one grade to other even when he has not learned basic materials required. This has led to functional illiteracy.
Raising standards for both the teachers and the students is the need of hour to improve education. Most teachers are only high school graduates and not well qualified who have failed many assessment test brought for teachers. Similarly , comparison of Catholic and public school where catholiC student perform better reason being high standard in Catholic schools.
