Description – A Procurement Specialist is a person whose mission is to ensure that the purchasing department secures goods and services at the right price at the right time and from the right source. We can also define the work of a procurement specialist as someone who is controlling the amount of money spent while purchasing required goods and services at the same time. This job needs one to have strong negotiation skills not only good with negotiating prices but also well at negotiating quantity, quality and delivery. The job will require an individual to work closely with the logistics as well, and ensure a smoother functioning of the supply chain management.

Relate to Company/Position – No day in the XYZ Company is a same day, every day here is filled with new challenges and opportunities, the procurement team not only deals with supplier and/or vendor management but also deals with partner management. The contribution of procurement during strategic sourcing, mergers and acquisitions is highly significant because it requires effective commercial management input, so that the supervision of contracts and purchase orders can be accomplished without posing challenge to the company operations.

Script – Procurement Specialist involves several responsibilities related to contracts, as the successful fulfillment of every contract will generate the desired revenue for the company. The specialist needs to understand that she/he is a buyer or purchaser and the nature of purchasing might not be the same all the time. At times purchase will not only relate to production but it can also relate to capital expenditure and investments on various projects. There is a constant need to evaluate suppliers as well by checking the financial status, the tax status, banking relates issues, business licenses, court registration, etc. in order to avoid non delivery of products. One might find the job a little bureaucratic in nature but it is must to check market references before finalizing one.

This job works on agreement and it helps to finalize contracts, along with strong negotiating skills there is a requirement to have adept knowledge about the market, the commodity in concern and competitive pricing of the same in the market. The way a procurement specialist can bring profit to the organization is through savings, cutting costs and also by eliminating useless organizational flows. The specialist must use multiple tools to bring work effectiveness such as e – auctions, competitive tendering process, benchmarking and quality sourcing. The specialist must be aware of methodologies such as total cost of ownership and game theory, these might not be required directly in the process but it will definitely help in catching up perfection with time.

The jobs requires an individual to represent the company externally and hence travelling to meet suppliers and attending meetings is a natural aspect of the job. Market investigation is a part of the job in order to find alternative technical and commercial solutions. This continues to help in sourcing or scouting new potential suppliers, thereby helping the business grow in the desired way.
