Does a soils report show water depth?
How is the height of a level/transit determined?
Definetely the soils report shows for the water depth. Soil water is an important thing for farmers as it effects the moisture, availability of nutrients and soil aeration for their cropping. With the help of the soil report only farmer came to know about many other things including water depth which is helpful for them in determining the type of cropping for their field.
The water level can be assessed either mass or volume by simple method as gravimetric soil water content test. In this method amount of water level is obtained by the difference in weights of moist soil and weight of soil heated at 105 deg known as oven dry weight. The same is then extra plotted to the area by cm and inches.
Gravimetric soil water content (%) = [mass of moist soil (g) − mass of oven-dried soil (g)/mass of oven-dried soil (g)] × 100
similarly volumetric water content in terms of % = volume of water (cm3)/volume of soil (cm3) × 100
Tihs equation will be rewritted to calculate the for the depth equivalent of water in soil is depth of
water in inches (cm)/depth of soil in inches (cm) × 100
