1. a)Precautions to be taken while care of this patient include, droplet precautions

  • perform frequent hand hygiene,before touching patient,before clean or aseptic technique,after body fluid exposure risk,after touching the patient,after touching patient patient surroundings.
  • Provide single patient room if available or considering sharing room with other patient who has the same condition(droplet precautions) by considering infection control guidelines of the facility.Careful disinfection of patient care equipment is important. use recommended cleaning agents before high level disinfection to ensure effectiveness
  • Routine and target cleaning of patient care environment with standard disinfectants and anti microbial agents.
  • Handling of used textiles with minimum agitation and send them separately with labeling.
  • Use proper personal protective equipment during care of patient

b) Personal protective equipment for care for this patient include,gloves,mask and gown as the patient has the chance of spreading infection through droplets(droplet precautions)

Gloves

  • wear disposable medical examination gloves during direct contact with the patient,cleaning the patient environment.
  • remove the gloves after care of patient outside the patient room

Gown

  • Wear gown during direct patient care to prevent soiling or contamination of clothing and remove the gown before leaving the patient environment.

Mask

  • use surgical face mask during care of patient and remove after leaving the patient room.
  • provide mask to the patient to contain the infection.

Do not reuse the PPE and perform hand hygiene after removing them.
