At what rate must a cylindrical spaceship rotate if occupants are to experience simulated gravity of 0.62 g? Assume the spaceship's diameter is 26 m , and give your answer as the time needed for one revolution

Solutions

Expert Solution

Force acting on space ship is

                     F = m a

     here the force is centripetal force

                  m v 2 / r   = ma

                     v 2 / r    = a

     speed of spaceship is

                 v = 2πr / T

                 (2πr / T ) 2   / r   = 0.62 g

                       4 π2 r / T2      = 0.62 g

       radius   r = 26 / 2 = 13 m

                      T 2 = 4 π2 *13 / 0.62*9.8

                       T =9.19 s
