The four components of a rhetorical
analysis are as follows:-
- Logos - This is
the logical aspect of the rhetorical situation. This refers to the
manner in which the speech is organized and the kind of arguments
that have been provided to support the claims. This is largely
about the structural elements of the text.
- Ethos - This is
the 'credibility' aspect of the speaker. It is more about
trustworthiness aspect of the speaker and the manner in which the
speaker comes across in front of the audience. It is also dependent
on the image of the speaker in front of the audience.
- Pathos - This is
more about the 'emotional' aspect of the rhetorical situation. This
is concerned about the manner in which emotions are dealt with by
the speaker. That is the use of the language to manipulate and
change the emotional sensibilities of the audience.
- Kairos - This is
about the 'setting' in which the rhetorical situation is set in.
This can also have a great influence on the overall outcome of the
speech.
