Societal norms that promote unhealthy habits permeate our daily lives. However, they don’t have to be practiced and accepted by everyone. List three unhealthy societal norms that are prevalent in your community or around your campus. Then, list countering strategies, behaviors, choices, or policies that could help change these norms to be more positive. You may want to refer to Table 1-2 for ideas.
EXAMPLE
1. | Unhealthy norm: Residence-hall student lounges have vending machines that offer only candy, cookies, and chips. |
2. | Strategies: (1) Meet with hall council and advocate for healthier items: apples, granola bars, pretzels, popcorn, etc. (2) Keep healthy snacks in the room so that you don’t have to use the vending machine. (3) Consider increasing the prices for the unhealthy choices. (4) Post on the vending machine the fat grams and calories of each item, as well as the number of minutes of exercise it would take to burn off each gram and calorie. |
1)Every visiting relative bring chocolate , burgers or other fatty food for children to make them happy.
But it leads to development of bad habit of eating such food.
Solution A campaign must be run to educate all the people that such habit donot seem so dangerous but actually they are. MoreoberM, parents must ask not to bring such things.
2) Get together of friends now a days usually occur in some restaurant or bar and not at residence. This culture led to unhealthy eating and drinking. Both are harmful for people . The biggest problem is people donot realize it and eat and drink even if they are not feeling like in peer pressure.
There must be given proper thought on this aspect and others way to socialise must be explored so as to avoid such norms.
3) Culture of ready to eat food . People have increased their use of ready to eat and processes food even if they have alternatives of taking freshly prepared one. Processed food is not meant for those who can take fresh one but it is becoming a fashion and trend.
Government , civil society and educated and awared must take step at their respective level to inculcate this understanding that fresh fruits and vegetables , or eatables are better anyway when compared to ready to made processed one.
