When is it legitimate to ‘disclose’ private information about an older person in receipt of care?
Why is it important to know the boundaries of your work role and responsibilities?
What does consumer directed care mean in relation to providing support to older people and its implications for providing care?
What is meant by ‘positive, active ageing’?
What is meant by a ‘rights-based approach’ in relation to older people? Give two examples.
What strategies can you use to support the older person to be more empowered?
What is meant by ‘reablement’ in relation to aged care service provision? Explain two strategies you could use.
1) When we deal with the legal aspects of medical care especially with the older care we have to strictly adherent with the legal code of ethics of the authority. As we follow the international code for nurses which isformulated by the ANA, each patient have complete right to know their health status ,pregress, information on the treatment that is planned for her.
When it comes to disclosing patient's information to any third person that is purely with the permission of the client howmuch ever relative the receiver is.
2) A health system is neither one professional nor the one proffession , it is apparently true that each one should stand within the limits of their roles and responsiblities. it helps not only to maintain the continuity of care with fully qualified and confident carers but also for the smooth funcioning of the health team.
3) Now the modern medicine focus on the individualised care , where the client concerns and needs are given the higher priority rether than the other health parameters. The basic principle behind is the health is not only the mere physical health but the integrity of mental, spiritual, and social health. for example, when we plan the care like timing of medicine or food , modifieing the diet the nurse should pay high interest to the clients preferences and likes and dislikes.
4) Positive active ageing is a new approach developed by the modern medicine in respect to old age care to meet the expense of the oldge generetion. normally aging is a process which collectively involves all the passive changes of the body. however in this new target regimen rather than making the ageing period confining to the oldage homes, it aim them to work productively , which is funded and supported by the government.
5) Right based approach says that the client is the ultimate decision maker and the health care providers have the option to encourage them to follow the therapy through education. for example, a client with liver cirrhosis should be given understanding about the consequences of alcohol and what improvement she can expect if she quit smoking.
6) Teach them to fully utilise their functions.
Help them to identify their strenghts
Give enough support wherever possible
improve the self confidence.
7) Reablement is the process to acquire the impaired or lost skill through the theraputic approach. Therapeutic teaching and care is to regain the functions rather than making them to go through the life. Previosly the oldage care was the palliative care but now to teach them to lead an independent life..
