a) What are the most important principals for designing a good report or visual?
Inorder to make a quality report or good visual, some of important principles are
1.Appearance:
The main purpose of this principle is to make the report clear and understanding, the purpose of many reports is decision making so good appearance of the report draw the attention of the decision maker, and inorder to improve the appearance of the report add titles and short sentences, images, so the user able to know the main purpose of the report.
2.Design:
The main purpose of this princhiple how you arranged the content of the page, keep the content of the report clearby breaking the long paragraphs into short paragraphs to increase the readability, and add bullets, numbers while the report has steps, and make the text large enough and use readable fonts for easy reading and also make sure to use readable font colors.
3.Consistent:
Consistency enables easy navigation through the reports, also use the color of the content consistently to avoid confusing the readers, Keep the overall page layout and design features consistent from page to page. Although each page in your report may have different content, the basic design should be consistent. Keep the hedings, bulleted list, font size , labels, and other text the same throughout the report.
4.Hierarchy:
The main purpose of hierarchy is placing your most important message physically higher than other pieces of information, it can be obtained in many ways such as using larger or bolder text to differentiate the importance of the content.
5.Accuracy:
The main purpose of this principle to maintain accuracy i.e the report contains only accurate information. If the report contains wrong information, then it leads decision maker to take wrong decision.s Hence, maintaining the accurate information helps the user to understand the situation very clearly. At the same time, excessive cost should not be involved while presenting the accurate information and should not result in the delay in the presentation of report.
b) What would you specifically avoid in designing a good report or visual?
1.Misaligned Content:
A misaligned content typically results in a piece that looks disturbing or feels out of balance and sloppy. Laying out your visual content requires where you’re placing icons, visuals, and data and what order you’re arranging the information in. To avoid this, stick to a grid .These measurements will help you determine where to place everything as you build out your visual content.
2.Confused Color Schemes:
Be cautious with colored text, never put the text in light colors and maintain high contrast between the text and background. Black text on a white or very light background is the most readable text.Shading the background reduces contrast and makes the text harder to read. Avoid printing text on colored backgrounds unless the background is very light ,and alsoo avoid writing text on the images and top of the images.
3.Disorganized Hierarchy:
When you think of visual content, always establish a clear and obvious visual hierarchy to help guide your reader through. Otherwise, your message will get lost and the report look unattractive.
4. Don’t try to place all the information on the same page:
you should never create one page to fit alll dashboards and don’t add all the information into the same page. Think about your users as a group of individuals who have different needs and add the diiferent types of information into different pages.
