Give one similarity and one difference between the factor rating method and the load distance method of locating facilities.
The similarity between the long distance model and the factor rating method is that both are loading facility method which evaluates certain factors or proximity factors before deciding the correct facility location for our production analysis for the organisation. Both of these models are used to select which area is the best location facility on any certain factor.
Although there lies a difference between the two. The factor rating method would use various weighted rating method to give and allot the ratings to the factor and then the sum is used to check which factor dominates the location facility or not. The location is selected on the basis of the rating and importance of the factor given.
On the other hand, on long distance method, distance factors are taken in which the location is selected that would essentially minimise the total weighted loads moving in and out from the facility. The distance is selected between the location and the main server provider for the location facility to by two points on the grid to check how far is the facility and is it feasible or not having it. It uses a mathematical approch for the selection.
