This assessment is designed to apply the knowledge and skills developed by students in evaluating the role of systems thinking in global and local sustainability challenges. You have been assigned a case study on the LMS, and must answer the following questions in relation to the case:
Why is supply chain topic a wicked problem? Explain using the characteristics of a wicked problem. (400 words)
Ans.Supply chain topic is a wicked problem
Its to be understood that definition of wicked problem is not clear, the most we can know about the problem being wicked is that there is not right answer to the problem as teh same case with suppy chain as it can be disrupted very easily it is known to be sensitive as no stimulus to it can work
Supply chain problem with wicked problem characteristics
1)Supply chain does not has a definitive formulation.
2) Supply chain problems do not have a “stopping rule.” In other words, these problems lack an inherent logic that signals when they are solved.
3) Their solutions are not true or false, only good or bad.
4) There is no way to test the solution to a supply chain
5) They cannot be studied through trial and error. Their solutions are irreversible so, as Rittel and Webber put it, “every trial counts.”
6) There is no end to the number of solutions or approaches to a supply chain problem
7) All Supply chain problems are essentially unique.
8) Supply chain problems can always be described as the symptom of other problems.
9) The way a supply problem is described determines its possible solutions.
10) Planners, that is those who present solutions to these problems, have no right to be wrong. Unlike mathematicians, “planners are liable for the consequences of the solutions they generate; the effects can matter a great deal to the people who are touched by those actions.”
