You pose some interesting ideas regarding both IQ testing and the notion of training oneself to "gorget" bad memories. It's interesting to see how the mind works and one can train their memory. An example I ask students consider is the experience of a trauma. These can be negative in nature and really impact an individuals day to day experiences. What are ways they might attempt to forget the negative memories in ways that positives ones are not forgotten as well? Does that make sense?
Human brain is the most complex organ in the body, and till now we have discovered only a few things about our brain. So taking talking about the question can we forget bad memories in a way that positives ones are not forgotten then, yes, we can but it is a very slow process. For example, you are very close to one of your family member and he suddenly passes away. In this can you can have bad memory about them every day, a memory about them is stored inside your subconscious mind, but the healing procedure will start after some time, as the time pass will pass the memory will start to fade and you will start to forget that person and only good memories will be in your mind.
So we can relate this to our negative memories, as the time will pass our negative memory will fade and only good memory will be there. There is a saying that ‘Time is a good healer’, so all the things get heal as the time pass. But it is up to us how we should take things. It is up to us that we should remember good memory or bad memory.
If you had a negative memory and you are surrounded with good people than it will help you to come out from your bad memories. So it is possible to fade your negative memory without losing good memory.
