One to two-page Paper describing the various forms of child abuse, how to recognize it, and reporting requirements.
#. Child Abuse :-
1. Doing something, or failing to do something that puts a child at risk of harm.
2. This can be Physical, Sexual, Emotional/Psychological, and Neglect.
#. Types of abuse :-
Physical Abuse :
1. Nonaccidental injury by any means.
2. Minor bruising to severe fractures or death.
3. It is abuse regardless of intent to harm.
Sexual Abuse :
1. Touching.
2. Penetration.
3. Indecent Exposure.
4. Exploitation - Prostitution, Production of pornographic materials.
Emotional or Psychological Abuse :
1. Pattern of behavior that impairs a child's emotional development or sense of self worth.
2. Constant criticism or threats.
3. With-holding of love, support, guidance.
4. Difficult to prove.
5. Almost always present when other types of maltreatment are identified.
Neglect :
1. Failure to provide for a child's basic needs.
2. Physical - Foods, clothing, shelter.
3. Medical - Necessary medical, dental, or MH treatment.
4. Educational - Failure to educate or attend to special educational needs.
5. Emotional - Failure to provide for psychological care and nurturance.
Neglect in terms of Abandonment and Substance Abuse :
1. Abandonment - Cannot identify or locate parents; failure to maintain contact; leave child alone where they could suffer harm.
2. Substance Abuse - Prenatal exposure to harm due to substance abuse; manufacturing meth in presence of child; giving child alcohol or drugs; caregiver impaired and unable to care for child.
#. The ways to identify Child Abuse :-
1. Watch how kids act in everyday situations.
2. Become aware of normal patterns of child behavior.
3. Become aware of normal patterns of behavior between child and parent/caregiver.
#. Some of the risk factors of potential child abuse situations :-
1. substance abuse
2. untreated mental disorders
3. multiple stressors
4. domestic violence
5. a lack of parenting skills
#. The steps to reporting child abuse :-
1. Call CPS within 24 hours.
2. File written report within 36 hours to CPS.
