Benefits of being a union member are as follows-

1. Union members enjoy better wages as compared to workers who are not union members. They can negotiate wages to ensure they earn what they deserve.

2. Union members possess collective bargaining power. One member does not have to fight battles alone; they have their union to fight battles for them.

3. A union member gets better working conditions than non- union member. Union negotiate better working condition for its members and also negotiate for other work related benefits like holidays, better safety measures, health insurance and working hours.

4. Union members also get training from union to improve their skills and increase their productivity.

5. Union member get job security assurance from the union

Some costs to be a union member-

1. It costs loss of freedom- if a person is a member of union, he or she lose the ability to negotiate for oneself. As a union member a person is not free to take decisions for themselves.

2. It can cost money as well in terms of fees and dues- some unions ask workers who want to join union for joining fees.
