Data must possess some key characteristics. Using example of a wearable computer, elaborate on the following: RELIABLE, TIMELY, And COMPLETE
In today's world data is a real power, so it must be correct and meaningful. Apart from this data has some characteristics like reliability, timely, complete and many more.
Wearable or body-worn computers are in trend now they include smartphones to a watch. They require a lot of data so the data provided should be good to make these devices more efficient.
Characteristics of data:
RELIABLE: reliability means that a piece of information doesn’t contradict another piece of information in a different source or system. False data is worse than incomplete data or no data at all. You could make a mistake that could cost you money and reputational damage. In wearable computers like watches if you have set remainder for two different tasks(shopping and important meeting) which needed to be performed on that particular time but due to mistake the data is exchanged then it may lead you to big trouble.
TIMELY: Mostly wearable computers depend on the time so data must be provided on the given time, timeliness can be measured as the time between when information is expected and when it is readily available for use. New and current data is more valuable to organizations than old outdated information. For eg, if an important call is to be made for a deal at a certain time but due to some delay in the remainder, the receiver may decline the deal. And timely data is most important in security alert systems like AI cameras which alert instantly as something unexpected happens.
COMPLETE: Incomplete data is as dangerous as inaccurate data. When looking at data completeness, think about whether all of the data you need is available; you might need a customer’s first and last name, but the middle initial may be optional. what if two persons have the same name then it might be the problem so we need both first and last name to get details of that customer otherwise it may lead to complications.
