What are the main sources of diversity and how do organisations manage the challenges they create?
Diversity means variation.
The word diversity means when you have variation or different varieties of anything which means sources of diversity differs accordingly.
Like in humans the sources of diversity are -
1. Diversity in culture - people from different places have developed their own cultures which brings the cultural diversity in the whole world.
2. Diversity of races - we belong to different regions which have different climatic and environmental conditions, humans have developed according to the environment in past years due to which people have variations in their physical traits from region to region which contributes to racial diversity.
3. Diversity in religion - people have their own belief and values which makes everyone different and based on their beliefs and values they create & follow different religions which contributes in the religious diversity.
4. There are also many things that are sources of diversity - different age groups, economic conditions, education status, sex differences and many other.
When you talked about having diversity in a workplace or organization for example, even then we have people from different areas and religiones who belong to different age groups & have different economic conditions. So, all these variables are the sources of diversity.
Organisations that have diversity of people and in the ways the work mostly get benefit of that. But it can also create challenges in the workplace. So in order to manage these challenges, they have to make rules & certain boundaries - like one would not be differentiated on the basis of religion or race.
Everyone would be provided with equal opportunities on the basis of of their educational qualification and how good work they do.
An organisation would be benefited from diversity only if the people learn to accept each other belief and respect each other.
Communication is the key for any kind of challenge. Most of the problems are created when there is no proper communication. Communication brings out the root of the problem and then it is easy to focus and manage difficulties.
Gender equality - every organisation that wants to work and grow then there should be gender equality. No one should be treated less on the basis of their gender.
