understanding the 3 main principles of learning (reinforcement, punishment, and modeling), answer the following:
In my opinion, reinforcement plays a major role in parenting because children could be shaped through proper reinforcements. Punishments may work well in specific situations and not all the time because children would become rebellious if they are continuously punished. Most of the time children could be motivated to engage in desired behaviours with the help of positive reinforcement because it involves rewards. Children like to be appreciated and given gifts when they perform well. However, as they grow, it would be modelling of the parents that would help the children become better people.
In my opinion, when it comes to the society, it would be punishment for which people would fear. This is because of the fact that society consists of people from various walks of life. No one would like to be punished in front of a society through imprisonment because they would feel ashamed and might face rejection from their own communities. Rewards wouldn’t motivate people as punishments do because people would naturally like to do whatever they want to do but they do not engage in such acts because of the fear of punishment through law.
