(Answer) Empiricism is the theory that knowledge is derived from what the senses experience. For example, John Doe might know that it is raining outside because he can see the rain with his eyes and the patter of the raindrops with his ears. Similarly, both simple and complex ideas in the human mind are based on what we see, hear, taste, read or what we absorb. In other words, ideas formulate through the senses with work as input devices.

To do this, they might send family and friends to regularly meet a controlled group of patients in the hospital. There would also be an experimental group who might not meet their family and friends. In this way, the rate and manner of their recovery are observed and a conclusion is formed through the experiment.
Psychiatry: This is the branch of psychology where the doctor has the license to prescribe medication. A psychiatrist will take the patient through a series of therapeutic sessions in order to get to the core of the psychological problem they might face and help device a solution and prescribe the necessary medication to overcome or placate the issue. For example, John Doe is suffering from depression. The psychiatrist has found out through sessions and talks that John is depressed because several years ago, he lost a grandparent that he loved very much. Since John needed closure, the psychiatrist made him come to terms with the death of the grandparent. Also, medication was prescribed to help John overcome his depression.
