Explain some of the reasons why unethical practices occur in our legal system. Are there any circumstances under which unethical practices would be preferable to an ethical practice? What situations exist where ethics are muddy and unclear enough to make two opposing sides believe they are each behaving ethically? Give examples to support your arguments.
In the present world, people are getting more greedier and in need of money and i think that's the main reason why unethical practices are increasing daily in all areas of life. Considering the unethical practices in our legal system which is actually a very common issue nowadays, i think , lack of a strict legal system is the main basic reason why the people are confident enough to conduct various unethical practices. If the legal system is very stringent in their punishments if caught any minute issue of unethical behaviour, then the rate of unethical acts would be comparatively low hopefully.Another reason for the increasing unethical practices is the number of supporters for these unethical acts are really high including high authority persons. This gives every unethical doer to do more unethical activities without any kind of fear in their minds.
When considering the case of Window dressing which is of course an unethical act done by a firm to show off its sales in huge numbers and earn profit but still it is more preferable by all companies especially high fame companies to stimulate their business rather than being ethical and showing the real figures which might be an unattractive factor for the customers.
Ethics can be unclear and muddy when people find that there is nothing they could gain in a situation when being ethical. Consider the situation of business ethics where every firm are taught to be ethical in all acts. Take the cases of two food processing companies who are major competitors in the market where their main aim is to gain profit more than the others(instead of improving the consumer's health!) and hence they are involving in various adulteration processes. Here even though both the companies are acting innocent to each other but still ethics is just a word in this scenario where they cant find the clear meaning of ethics and instead is behaving unethically.
Hence the answer.
