Solutions

Expert Solution

A. Hamwi formula to calculate Ideal Body Weight for Men

106 lbs for first 5 feet + 6 lbs for each inch over 5 feet

Here Matt is 5 feet 11 inches=106+6*11= 172 lbs is the Ideal Body weight for Matt

Percent of IBW=actual weight/IBW * 100= 235/172*100=146.5

B. Percent of Usual Body Weight

[ (usual weight- Actual weight) / usual weight) * 100]

Usual weight- Actual wight=252-235=17

17/252*100= 6.74

C. BMI is calcualted using the formula = Weight in kg/height in meter square

235 lbs to kg=106.59 kg

5 feet 11 inch into meter=1.8

106.59/1.8*1.8 = 32.9

D. For a healthy adult daily protein needs should be calcualted using the formula

0.8gms* body weight in Kg= 0.8*106.59=85.27

E. BEE= 66.5+ (13.8 * wt in Kg) + (5* Ht in cm)- (6.8* age in years)

[66.5+ 1471+900]-(6.8*23)= 2437- 156.4= 2280.6

F.To acheive weight loss for an over weight individual

suntract 500-1000 calories per day to acheive a weight loss of 1-2 lbs / week
