(Answer) Reconstruction is something that came immediately after the Civil war. During this time the African Americans worked to expiate the lives that were affected at the time of this civil unrest. This particular period is outlined in the book called “Black Reconstruction in America” by W. DuBois.

The reconstruction was spearheaded by the Black intellectuals of the time and led to the proper settlement of the society after the war, especially in the southern states. This was a delicate time when an economy of privately owned plantations was being replaced by a democracy that was managed by the working class. This transition of power would not only affect the African Americans but also the white workers and middlemen who worked under the plantation owners.

The reconstruction was not only to make the transition smooth but to also heal the sectional divide between the coloured and white people. This was mainly because with a working class, all sections would come under a common class. Since the reconstruction aimed to rehabilitate the working class, it was also beneficial to the whites of the southern states.
