1. Diotima argues that love is a philosopher. Explain (204A-D).

2. Diotima argues that "all of us are pregnant” and desire “to give birth to beauty, whether in body or soul” (206C). How does this idea of 'pregnancy' fulfill her definition of love as "wanting to possess the good forever" at 206A? How one can give birth both bodily and spiritually?

3. Diotima's speech ends with a story about love's journey towards fulfillment known as 'Diotima's Ladder.' What are the stages of this ladder (210B-E)? What is at the top (211A-D)? How would Plato answer this question: Are the things at the bottom of the ladder really lovable in the fullest sense of the word?

Diotima was an ancient Greek philosopher & a priestess circa 440 B.C.E.who plays an important role in Plato's symposium, her ideas are the origin of Love In her arguments that Love is philosopher , In Steph 204A that pholosopher is a lover & cannot be entirely wise . Wisdom Is pursued & cannot be possessed. But it says that the philosopher is not in a state of of ignorance'" -- "For what's especially difficult about being ignorant is that you are content with yourself, even though you're neither beautiful and good nor intelligent. If you don't think you need anything, of course you won't want what you don't think you need" . So the philosopher finds themselves in between ignorance and wisdom, aware of the lack IN( 204B) Further, love is directed towards wisdom because love is always love of beauty and "wisdom is extremely beautiful" .

In( 204CS) That the beloved & not the lover was love , I fancy to hold that Love is beautiful, The Lovable indeed , is the truly beautiful tender , perfect, & heaven-blest; but the Lover is of adifferent type , It narrates Love is such as you described to him, of what is he to mankind ?

In( 204D)" The question to socrates " on which I will try to enlighten you. While Love is of such nature & origin as I have related,What is the Love of the lover of beautiful things? 2).What wil he have who gets beautiful things?

ANS B) In( 206C) Diotima argues that " all of us are pregnant & desire " to give birth to a beauty On reaching acertain age our nature yearns to beget . as the conjuction of a man & awomen isa begetting for both . This is adivine affair , this engendering & bringing to birth , an immortal element in the creature that is mortal& it cannot occur in discordant.

The idea of" pregancy " fulfil her defination of Love Wanting to possess the good forever in (206A symp) "Since what men love is simply & solely the good . Or is your view otherwise ? it stated that what ever person comes in this world should have beauty & intelligence. i

Briefly she narrates " Love loves the good to be one's own for ever"That is the only truth.

ANS3)The ladder of love isa continuum of desires , all which take part in the Beautiful , As nothing is visible & world is entirely beautiful all the time .Each kind of love is given a place as a rung om the ladder, so that desire to have heterosexual relations - which are the amounts to procreations of your seed .Ideas part take in the beautiful & the good even more than our ability to create life because they are more permanent .We see beauty in glory , fame ,justice & knowledge

The stages of ladder ( 210 B-E) Quatations are mentioned below   that body is cognate to that which is attached to any other, and that if he means to ensue beauty in form, it is gross folly not to regard as one and the same the beauty belonging to all; and so, having grasped this truth, he must make himself a lover of all beautiful bodies, and slacken the stress of his feeling for one by contemning it and counting it a trifle. But his next advance will be to set a higher value on the beauty of souls than on that of the body, so that however little the grace that may bloom in any likely soul
