For this activity, find a picture online of something that you believe represents either an achieved status or an ascribed status you have. Briefly describe the image you’re posting and how it represents either your achieved or ascribed status. Be sure that your image clearly illustrates your chosen status and be specific with your understanding of how your identity (from the course material) impacts your life.
I am a college student.
A social status of a person, if it is assigned at birth or assigned involuntarily later at life is known as ascribed status. This status is not earned or chosen. An achieved status is that which a person takes up voluntarily. It is often related to the personal ability or merit. The following picture depicts my achieved status of being a college student.
Being a student can be termed as an ascribed status because law demands it and there is no choice as such. But being a college student definitely is an achieved status, because I have chosen and also with hard work and determination have achieved the status of being in college. My identity from here on will be defined by this achieved status. I will learn, grow and aim for a successful life ahead and this education will contribute in shaping my identity.
(Dear patron, the answer is from my own understanding since the course material has not been provided here).
