List 5 positive effects of preschool on
children’s development. Be sure to state whether the each one
affects a child’s physical, cognitive, or socio-emotional
development. Please site the sources that you used.
What problem does this article, Bringing Brain Development 101 to
Kids Who Miss Preschool, describe? What solution is discussed? In
what ways does the program influence the cognitive and
socio-emotional development of young children? Do you think this
program is an effective solution to the problem? Why or why
not?
1. Preschooling has postive effects on children's early
literacy, and language growth (Pianta, 2002).
2. Preschooling facilities emotional maturity and social
competencies, such as self-regulation (Boethel, 2004).
3. Preschoolers show greater general knowledge, cognitive ability,
and language development (Duncan et al., 2007).
4. Academic development in later years re associated with
children’s preparedness for formal schooling (De Feyter &
Winsler, 2009).
5. Pre-kindergarten programs themselves have had positive effects
on children’s readiness to learn (Issacs and Roessel, 2008).
