4) Sharon Goodwill has worked for five years for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. She is an adequate employee with no substantial problems or commendations in her employment file. Recently, however, Sharon has experienced some personal problems including a divorce and a child custody battle. She has missed a substantial amount of days and has begun to make major mistakes on the job. She has been diagnosed as suffering from clinical depression.
a) If you were Sharon’s immediate supervisor, how would you handle this situation? Apply the policy of progressive discipline to this case.
b) If the situation resulted in several bad performance evaluations, what steps could you take to dismiss this employee?
c) Is there just cause for firing this employee (Daugherty Standards)? What rights does the employee have in this situation?
A Thumbs Up! Would be really helpful for me. If you have any questions, please leave a comment and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Here we will discuss the case about the shared who has just experienced some personal problems including a diverse and a child custody battle and after some days she was also diagnosed with clinical depression.
CASE 1:- Being Sharon's immediate supervisor, I would advise Sharon to take proper care of her and take proper medications prescribed by the doctors regarding the clinical depression. also, I would suggest that there should be the application of progressive discipline to this case because it was recently found out that she begin to make major mistakes on the job which were not unavoidable and couldn't be ignored.
CASE 2:- We would definitely try to take the problem under the consideration and make sure to solve it but if the situation resulted in several bad performance evaluations then there would be some steps to be followed to dismiss Sharon such as firstly Sharan would be given the verbal morning so that she could get into the consideration and work properly in the organization, if the situations really don't work out then she would be given the written warning. Even if the situations are uncontrollable then she would be suspended without paying her, if the situation is that under the control should be called after some time but if the situations would get worse than she would be terminated ultimately.
CASE 3:- yes, the employee can be fired in the case of Just cause situation as the performance of employees was getting down and down day by day. The right of the employee in the situations would be that before the employee gets fired he would get a legal notice that he would be soon fired.
