Will the Internet and related communication technologies are tools for increasing political freedom, or will they give more power to governments to spy on, control, and restrict their people?

  • Internet is actually a fun place most users won't even understand how it is affecting their lives and to the question, the answer also remains the same. It can be very unpredictable at times and can work in favor of anyone who knows to use it the right way.
  • It will act the same in the case of political freedom. As we already know through America's & Russian elections how the Internet was the biggest highlight of the result after we got to know how they manipulated people to vote a leader who wasn't loved but still it is a theory and hasn't yet proved.
  • If people use the internet in the best way then it can add up to the advantage to the people on having an upper hand towards the government. As we all know that all of us can use the same kind of the internet and with similar powers as the government. Hence, the only thing to break here is cracking up the idea first of how to use the internet to our advantage.
  • The Internet can be used to raise awareness among the people of how the government is fooling people or any kind of the same thing so that the people are convinced and a community can rule as a majority. This can only work in case of the democracy as only there we have full power given to the public.
  • While in the case of government, there can be certain ad campaigns and also they can manipulate people using the powers they have like putting up the advertisements everywhere they want to target more and more audience abandoning the advertisement policy that exists.
  • But, there will be always an upper hand for the government in controlling the internet as they will have powers to manipulate and alter the rules as per their convenience. There are only a few people with excellent knowledge in the crowd to bypass such rules and not get caught so they don't count.

Hence, this is my analysis on the above topic.
