The original Occupational and Safety Health Act was passed to correct the large n umber of unsafe conditions in the workplace. There is ample evidence that the Act has reduced injuries and deaths in major injuries. Today's workplace is evolving and is very different than those of 50 years ago. In this unit's discussion board, give your opinion on the changes we see in employment and in the nature of work that may impact how we look at OSHA today. What new conditions should OSHA address that may not have been part of the original thought? Does today's workforce, for example, experience more separation due to remote worker options? If some emotional or psychological issues arise, should OSHA address those?
The changes that can be currently seen today with work is that people have become more competitive and try to increase their pay. There is increase in emotional pressures among the people and there are increased cases of discrimination basis the sex, colour, caste and creed. Not only this, issues of harassment have also come forward.
With the changes in the working conditions across the world,
there are several things that should be added to the OSHA
regulations.
- There should be a section related to family compensation as
because of remote working there is separation from the
family.
- Regulations related to health facilities, insurance, and safety
norms.
- Policies regarding effective training, right pay, and
non-differentiation basis colour, caste and creed.
- There should be fixed working hours and regulations related to
age should also be fixed.
There should also be some inclusion of emotional and psychological
issues because in current times the people have been suffering from
mental stress quite a lot.
- There should be a unit for mental health.
- Special meetups and recreation facilities for reducing work
pressure.
- Strict rules regarding sexual harassment or issues like
ragging.
- There should be frequent session to ask about needs and issues
from workers, if any.
