What changes in business software platforms have you experienced, and what was the driving force behind the change?
In Human Resources, we were at one point handing off hardcopy paperwork to co-workers who need to do the next step in the hiring or onboarding process. It was tedious, timely, and with the available electronic programs and email, it was an ultimate unnecessary waste of paper. The introduction of new species of computers that performs works faster thus forcing discard of original software and computers.
What important trends in business hardware are occurring? What relationship do you see happening between hardware changes and software? In your experience, which seems to drive the other and why?
Businesses trends are to include use of smaller more easily used and transportable hardware like tablets, iphones, smart watches and things of the new age. The hardware has to keep up with the software being produced at such fast rates. Most hardware are being made to suit the incoming new software technologies, but they are both evolving to suit one another.Software is driving the hardware part since it is the most crucial component.
How important do you perceive databases and data mining to business? How could a small business take advantage of the technology?
I perceive databases and data mining will continue to be essential to a successful business. It not only stores and processes information but assist in forecasting for future decision making and budgeting. With greater importance since they are of most valuable since they carry the valuable component of the business. Small business can advertise themselves thus more market and being known.
In your opinion, should software dictate business processes or should the business process dictate the software structure? Why? What are the risks?
At the current rate that software is growing and offering such ease to our business work, I think it is important to; maybe not as strong a word as dictate the business process, but it should definitely be a driving consideration in business planning and forecasting. I do think that software companies are very attune to what businesses need to do and thus are producing software that can make it easier so that businesses want and need their product.
The business should dictate the software because it is us the people that know what we want.If the software dictates we may end up in loses since at some point it will not realize what to do or a change that will cause loses be in place.
