Which statistical test to use to compare efficiency of 9 antibiotics? I compared each antibiotic to control using t test and got a significant result but which test to use to compare different antibiotics among each other?

Solutions

Expert Solution

For comparing the efficiency of 9 antibiotics, one way ANOVA is used as follows:

H0:Null Hypothesis: (There is no significant difference in the the efficiency of 9 antibiotics)

HA: Alternative Hypothesis: (at least one mean is different from other 8 means) (There is significant difference in the the efficiency of 9 antibiotics)

In case the calculated value of F is less than critical value of F, the difference is not significant and conclude that there is no significant difference in the the efficiency of 9 antibiotics.

In case the calculated value of F is greater than critical value of F, the difference is significant and conclude that there is significant difference in the the efficiency of 9 antibiotics. In that case case, in order to find out which antibiotic among the 9 antibiotics is significant, Turkey's HSD (Honest Significant Difference) Post Hoc Test is to be conducted.

What should we do about antibiotic use that is not health-related? A lot of antibiotics are used to keep crops from spoiling and to increase the growth of livestock. These practices have important economic benefits to farmers and to consumers who buy their products. But they increase the levels of antibiotics in our environment and lead to resistance. What do you think should be done about using antibiotics in this way?
