American workers work more hours than their European counterparts. Should Congress legislate a shorter workweek? Defend your opinion with concepts covered so far. (250 words)
Americans work longer hours without taking vacations. They take maximum of one week vacation in a year. As per the government rules some of the section of the employed workers are not even allowed to take any sort of leave. If we compare Europe countries with Americans, they do have much relaxed working pattern and get short workweeks.
The primary reason behind Americans working for more hours is to have lower taxes which increase the motivation for Americans to work longer hours in order to obtain more money.
In comparison of Britain, France, Germany and Spain, Americans have got reason and facilities to persuade with more working hours. On an average, Americans work for more than 41 hours a week. Another culture of United States is working on weekends. Mostly less educated or immigrants are likely to work on the night timings or on weekends. It has been observed quite frequently in the past decades that Americans are not only work for longer hours but they do spend their times working on weekends as well. Nearly 27% employees in the US work between 10p.m. to 6 a.m.
Americans should work for longer hours in order to get a Quality life and to reduce stress from their lives. It is always good to make yourself occupied for the entire day to fetch good money and good life. Short workweeks may arise problems like unemployment, overconsumption, low well-being, increasing inequalities.
