NSS or Novel Storage Services is a file system used by a specific operating system known as Linux. This file system is used by the company known as Novell for its operating system known as Novell NetWare.

NSS was first introduced in 2004 to SUSE version of Linux. by integrating low-level network NCPFS protocol.Due to its unique feature which helps in setting shared volumes in a file server for a LAN connection. It is a 64-bit journaling file system with a balanced tree algorithm for the directory structure. Its also known as the extension of the NetWare file system.

As network users have become more sophisticated in the twenty-first century so as the need for more storage. The greatest demand for all time is more storage, larger files, more efficient file management, and faster volume mounting speeds. So NSS is the solution to all this problem.

This 64bit file system enables us to configure, mount, and maintain large volumes. It is best situated for networks that need large volumes, numerous files, large databases.

The architecture of NSS: The storage device of NSS is organized into storage deposits and partition are organized in the pool. It contains a file size of 8TB(terabytes) than a normal file system which contain only 2GB(GIGABYTES). The file volume of NSS is 8 trillion than a traditional with 16billion. The volume mounting performance is in Seconds whereas in normal file system it takes minutes.

Management Tools used by NSS are Console One, Remote Manager.

But theirs also a downside of NSS file system as it does not support  Block suballocation and Auditing.

Despite these current limitations, you'll want to use NSS as your primary (and maybe exclusive) file system in NetWare 6. NSS provides you with the advances of high storage capacity and increased data access performance.
