describe EVERY SINGLE action from the action potential moving down a motor neuron, to the synapse, and then all the way to contraction of the skeletal muscle cell.
Muscle Contraction takes place when an Action Potential travels through the Nerves towards the Muscle. During Muscle contraction the nervous system generates a signal in the form of chemical message, as an impulse called as action potential, which travels through motor neuron. The chemical message release a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine that binds to receptors on the outside of the muscle fiber a skeletal muscle tissue is composed of cells and the chemical reaction starts within the muscles.
1 Nervous system generates action potential that releases acetylcholine .
2 Aceytlcholine binds to muscle fiber receptors
3 The proteins inside muscle fibers are organized into long chains
4 When acetylcholine reaches receptors on the membranes of muscle fibers, membrane channels open and the process that contracts a relaxed muscle fibers begins
5 Open channels allow an influx of sodium ions into the cytoplasm of the muscle fiber.
6 The sodium influx also sends a message within the muscle fiber to trigger the release of stored calcium ions.
7 The calcium ions diffuse into the muscle fiber and leads to the contraction of muscles.
When the stimulation of the motor neuron providing the impulse to the muscle fibers stops, the chemical reaction that causes the rearrangement of the muscle fibers' proteins is stopped. This reverses the chemical processes in the muscle fibers and the muscle relaxes.
