The steering committee (Leadership team) is a group of high level advisers who have been appointed to provide an organization or project with direction and ensures that a project stays on course and achieves the desired benefits through championing the project within the organization.

Here we, discuss the role of the steering committee in electronic health record (EHR) implementation. In any organization set up, it absolutely must have effective governance from the very top of an organization because of the number of factors that affecting the implementation program.

• The steering committee should have the desire and ability to devote sufficient time to team meetings and gather information for system and workflow development.
• A persistent positive approach towards solution and implementation process
• One lead member who has the responsibility and willingness to make final decisions, particularly when conflicts arise.
• To formulate strategies for the development of the electronic health record (EHR) infrastructure and sharing of patient records in both the private and public health sectors.
• It is very necessary that the Steering Committee time to time should review the institutional framework and structure that sustain the governance, management, operation and maintenance of the EHR sharing infrastructure.
