Before you read this chapter, write about your perceptions of middle age. Do not try to anticipate what information is presented in the textbook, simply discuss how you view the time of life commonly referred to as middle age. When does it begin? How long does it last? What do you yourself expect to be doing at that age? What do you expect you will have accomplished by that time? What do you hope to have accomplished by that time? What do you hope to accomplish during that time? What do you expect your psychological mindset about life will be? Are you looking forward to middle age or dreading it? Why?

In my opinion, one of the most challenging time periods is middle adulthood which according to me starts from 40 years of age and lasts up to retirement may be up to the age of 60. These twenty years are more important because of the fact that it would be influenced by work pressure, familial responsibilities, financial struggles and individual’s wish to be part of the social institutions. It’s the age one would be at the peak of one’s employment with the workplace and the family demanding equal time thus exerting more pressure on people. Children would be attending school, parents would have become dependents and the so-called mid-life crisis would emerge. I would have accomplished forming my own family, have my kids, would be at a better position in terms of employment and have enough financial stability. I look forward to my middle adulthood age because without challenges life would become very dull. Now I’m supported by many people around me but middle age is the real test for human life and survival which I hope I could face it boldly without any regrets.
